Rankings from Coaches Poll

The 2014 season was the first season that the ECU Pirates competed at the FBS level in the American Athletic Conference. A season that started with low expectations and low results under previous coach karosi was turned around following the firing of karosi and the hiring of unproven ObliviousLAX to fill his place. LAX took over the team at 3-5, coming off a 28-9 loss at the hands of South Carolina in Columbia. Under his leadership the Pirates managed to rattle off 4 straight wins to close out the season, clinching the AAC East Division title mere hours before the final game of the season against SMU. ECU faced #1 Boise State in the AACCG and ended up blowing a 21-13 halftime lead to lose 24-34. With Boise going to the playoffs, ECU ended up in the Fiesta Bowl against #8 Ole Miss. After a back and forth struggle, true freshman K Robbie "Fitzy" Fitzpatrick hit the game winning FG as time expired to win 17-16.
